After conducting a yearlong campaign to educate stores and restaurants about the city's prohibition on single-use plastic bags, Coral Gables Code Enforcement will begin to issue citations starting on May 10 to those businesses that don't comply with this ordinance.
On May of last year, the City of Coral Gables became the first municipality in Florida to prohibit single-use carry out plastic bags. All retail establishments in our city, including supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, shops, service stations, restaurants and any other sales outlets must replace single-use plastic bags with reusable, recyclable or compostable alternatives.
Fines will be imposed for code violators.
